Another busy week draws to a close. Here's what's been happening in Vaudreuil-Soulanges over the past few days.

Vaudreuil-Dorion: free distribution of solar eclipse glasses

Starting Tuesday April 2, the Vaudreuil-Dorion municipal library will be offering its residents a free pair of solar glasses (one per citizen), while supplies last. These glasses will enable them to watch the solar eclipse on April 8 in complete safety.

Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion selected for the Ovation municipale award

The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion's "La Genèse, un toit pour toi" project is a finalist for the mérite Ovation municipale 2024 award in the Habitat, housing, equity and diversity category. The project will be presented at the Pavillon mérite Ovation municipale during the Assises 2024 of the Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) on May 23 and 24, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion donates nearly $900,000 to its organizations

Nearly $900,000 was donated to community, cultural, sports and leisure organizations in the Vaudreuil-Dorion area, at the annual "Soirée de reconnaissance des organismes" held on March 14. The funds raised will be used to support the organizations in their various activities.

La Maison de la Famille launches its socio-financing campaign

On Monday, the Maison de la famille de Vaudreuil-Soulanges team launched its socio-financing campaign to raise the funds needed to build its new home in Saint-Zotique.

Burnbrae Farms Foundation donates $100,000 to Maison de la Famille

The Burnbrae Farms Foundation has pledged $100,000 over five years to the Maison de la Famille de Vaudreuil-Soulanges (MFVS) as part of its social fundraising campaign to raise the funds needed to build a new home in Saint-Zotique.

Saint-Lazare softball player Léa Chevrier will continue her university career with the Miami University Club Softball Redhawks in the state of Ohio. She will therefore be playing in the 1st division of the NCAA Softball.

2,000 bursary awarded to Saint-Lazare athlete

The 32nd edition of the Aléo Foundation's National Bank Bursary Program recognized the achievements of 22 student-athletes, awarding them a total value of $100,000 in bursaries and services. Among the recipients was Alexia Chevrier, a softball player and Saint-Lazare resident, who received $2,000 in financial assistance. 

Sandy Beach: site owner bans public access

Since March 11, access to Sandy Beach in Hudson has been prohibited. The owner of the site has installed concrete barriers at several access points, preventing citizens from using the beach.

Gymini stands out in cheerleading

The JC Perreault complex in Saint-Roch-de-L'Achigan was the scene of a vibrant show last weekend, as cheerleading teams from across the province met for the provincial championship organized by the Cheer Québec federation. Here are the results for teams from the G-Force association, the cheerleading arm of Club Gymini de Vaudreuil-Dorion. G-Force offers recreational, pre-competitive and competitive teams.

Smoke Meat owner Pete back in court in May

It is finally next May that the case of Peter Varvaro, owner of the restaurant Smoke Meat Pete in L'Île-Perrot could see its outcome. The businessman was back in court this Wednesday, March 20 in the morning when he appeared before Judge Joey Dubois.

Return to summer schedule for Vaudreuil-Soulanges ecocenters

Starting April 1, the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges ecocenter network will switch to summer hours until November 30 inclusive.

An exhibition paying tribute to a significant personality at Saint-Lazare

The Société Historique de Saint-Lazare pays tribute to Gérald Sarault, a retired Saint-Lazare priest who passed away last July. The initiative will run until the end of November in the SHSL showcase in the entrance hall of Saint-Lazare town hall. 

Municipal incivilities - Marie-Claude Nichols calls on government to act

In the past week, Marie-Claude Nichols, independent MNA for Vaudreuil, tabled a motion in the National Assembly calling on the Caquist government to commit to concrete measures to improve the climate within municipal councils.
