Another busy week draws to a close. Here's what's been happening in Vaudreuil-Soulanges over the past few days. 

Learn the "Art of Fire" at Galerie Atelier Séguin Poirier in Les Cèdres from January

Galerie Atelier Séguin Poirier welcomes you at the start of the new year for enamel-on-copper workshops, what they call the Art of Fire ! The gallery is located at 1037 chemin du Fleuve, in Les Cèdres.

Student registration for the 2024-2025 school year to begin soon

Will your child be starting school in September 2024? From January 29 to February 16, all schools in the Centre de services scolaires des Trois-Lacs will be holding registrations for the upcoming school year.

Pincourt judoka wins bronze medal

The Quebec judo delegation at the 2024 Canadian Elite Senior Championships held in Edmonton on January 13 and 14 included over 200 judokas from across the country. Among them was an athlete affiliated with L'Île-Perrot's Dojo Perrot-Shima, who won a bronze medal. 

A Vaudreuil-Dorion skater stars at the Four Continents Championships in China

Following the 2024 Canadian National Skating Championships, Skate Canada named its teams for two ISU Championships. The Vaudreuil-Soulanges region will be well represented by figure skater Maxime Deschamps, from Vaudreuil-Dorion, and his partner Deanna Stellato-Dudek. 

Three lanes open on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge

Six weeks after work began to solidify the cracked concrete slab on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, a third lane is now open at all times on the road structure. 

Great achievements for Vaudreuil-Soulanges hockey players

Thousands of minor hockey players from Vaudreuil-Soulanges were in action this weekend as several tournaments were held.

DJ Steve Watt, Étienne Drapeau and the Boogie Wonder Band will be part of the 42nd Pincourt Firefighters' Day on August 10, 2024. 

Will the ice bridge between Oka and Hudson open this winter?

After being inaccessible during the 2023 winter season, the Oka-Hudson Traverse may well suffer the same fate at the start of 2024. To date, the company that operates the ice bridge during the cold season is unable to confirm whether it will open in the coming months. 

Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps from Vaudreuil-Dorion take first place

Etsy Vaudreuil-Soulanges expands its reach and changes its name

Regroupement Etsy Vaudreuil-Soulanges, founded in 2019 with the mission of promoting local artisans, today announces a significant name change. From now on, it will be known as La Vitrine Vaudreuil-Soulanges. This transformation reflects the evolution of the team and its vision.

A $4,000 grant for a boxer from Vaudreuil-Dorion

Now a tradition to usher in the New Year, the Aléo and Georges St-Pierre Foundations' awards ceremony highlighted seven up-and-coming student-athletes in combat sports and gymnastics, encouraging them to pursue their careers with bursaries of $2,000 or $4,000. One of the recipients is Talia Birch, 18, from Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Three local projects in the running for Bourses d'initiatives en entrepreneuriat collectif awards

For the 5th consecutive year, several social economy projects have been submitted to the Bourses d'initiatives en entrepreneuriat collectif (BIEC) Montérégie. In Vaudreuil-Soulanges, three projects caught the attention of the jury and are now in the running to win a grant of up to $20,000.

42 000$ for L'Actuel

The latest Holiday Giving Campaign, which ran from December 1 to 31, 2023, was a great success. Thanks to the generosity of many donors, the Fondation L'Actuel's Holiday Giving Campaign raised $42,000. The funds will be used to support the services of the Centre d'action bénévole L'Actuel.
 

Candlelight benefit concert for Saint-Lazare church

Romantics in search of a Valentine's Day gift can turn to the upcoming fundraising event at Paroisse Saint-Joseph in Saint-Lazare to delight their loved one.  A candlelight concert will be held on Friday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the heart of the church at 1980 Chemin Sainte-Angélique. 

Vaudreuil-Soulanges Hospital: Guy Pilon to meet Christian Dubé

Quebec Minister of Health and Social Services Christian Dubé will meet with Vaudreuil-Dorion Mayor Guy Pilon this Friday. The meeting will focus on the development of the parking lot for the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital.

Police operation in Vaudreuil-Dorion

Police officers from the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Est detachment are currently taking part in a search of a Vaudreuil-Dorion business in connection with a tobacco smuggling operation. 

Annick Gauvreau: first artist to exhibit at the new Muso gallery

Annick Gauvreau, a multidisciplinary artist from Coteau-du-Lac, feeds on art in many forms, just as her parents Pierre Gauvreau and Madeleine Arbour did. She will soon be giving a talk entitled Une petite fille parmi les grands, richesse d'un héritage immatériel at the Musée d'art de Rouyn-Noranda. She will also be inaugurating a new gallery at the Musée Société des deux-rives (Muso) in March, with nine works available for purchase.

The first Salon Emplois de qualité en 2024 to be held in Coteau-du-Lac

The Table de concertation pour l'emploi de Vaudreuil-Soulanges confirms that it will be holding four Salons Emplois de qualité en 2024. The first will be held on February 21 in Coteau-du-Lac, followed by three events in L'Île-Perrot, Vaudreuil-Dorion and Rigaud on April 10, October 2 and November respectively. 

CISSSMO inaugurates its new medical device reprocessing unit

CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest is proud to announce the completion of renovations to the Medical Device Reprocessing Unit (MDRU) at Hôpital du Suroît. The redevelopment of the MDRU is part of the many projects planned to modernize Hôpital du Suroît, representing a major investment of $200 million.  

Tree trimming and felling in Vaudreuil-Dorion

The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion's public works department recently commissioned a contractor to carry out pruning and tree-felling work in the Sauternes, Belle-Plage, Cheverny, Quinchien and Ruisseau Asselin/Bellerive woodlands during the winter period.

Urban densification: citizens' meeting in Vaudreuil-Dorion

Vaudreuil-Dorion's independent municipal councillors will be holding a citizens' discussion on the theme of urban densification on Monday, January 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at City Hall.

Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec's Contraband Investigation Service, in collaboration with police officers from the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Est and Beauharnois-Salaberry RCMs, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS), conducted a tobacco smuggling operation in Vaudreuil-Dorion on January 17.
