Jeux du Québec: A first medal for the Sud-Ouest
The Sud-Ouest flag-bearer, Les Cèdres athlete Mathias Robichaud, won the regional delegation's first medal at the 57th Jeux du Québec finals in Rimouski.
The 17-year-old won the bronze medal in the 800-meter track and field event on Sunday. Mathias Robichaud came third with a time of 1:59.68.
Also in track and field, Norah Martin (Vaudreuil-Dorion) finished 15th in the 3,000-meter event. Teammates Mia Douhou (Coteau-du-Lac), Philomène Richard (Vaudreuil-Dorion) and Mikaella Martin (Vaudreuil-Dorion) placed 5th, 25th and 12th respectively in the 100-meter, 400-meter and 800-meter events.
In the boys' event, Raphaël Courteau (Les Coteaux) finished 19th in the 100-meter race, and 18th in the 400-meter race. In the same event, Antoine Robichaud (Les Cèdres) placed 15th.

Beach volleyball
Sunday July 23 was a big day for beach volleyball players. They played not one, but four matches and recorded two victories over teams from the Capitale nationale and Côte-Nord regions.
The boys won two of their three matches. They won against the South Shore and the Laurentians.
Road cycling
In road cycling, the athletes held the criterium challenge. Alexia Nolet (Saint-Polycarpe) finished 27th.
Her male colleagues Hugo Heroux (Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot), Christophe Massé (Coteau-du-Lac), Étienne Croze (Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot) and Logan Malette (Les Coteaux) placed 33rd, 16th, 34th and 35th.
Triathlon
Triathletes from the South-West also competed on Sunday in the furrowing event (375 m - 10 km - 2.5 km).
Olivier Koniuszewski (Saint-Lazare) finished 20th with a time of 35:14.6.
On the girls' side, Agathe Richard (Vaudreuil-Dorion) placed 14th with a time of 38:44.3, Carolane Pharand (L'Île-Perrot) finished 18th with a time of 40:00.9, and Catherine Chevrier (Saint-Lazare) finished the course in 37:57.0, which earned her 4th place.
Men's baseball and basketball
The men's baseball team won its two games 11-0 and 11-1 against teams from Côte-Nord and Abitibi.
Unfortunately, in basketball, the boys suffered two defeats in as many close games. The day ended with scores of 51-40 and 51-47 for Outaouais and Est-du-Québec respectively.
For the girls, two victories were added. They faced Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and Estrie. Our players won both matches by scores of 51-37 and 42-33.
Swimming
In the 100-meter breaststroke, Anne Vaillancourt (Vaudreuil-Dorion) finished 22nd with 1:23.31 on the clock. Teammate Lilly D'Amico placed 26th with a time of 1:26.78.
Rayan Saadi (Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot) finished 29th in the 200-meter freestyle, Yaroslav Koval (Saint-Lazare) 33rd in the 100-meter breaststroke and Tyler Castelo (Vaudreuil-Dorion) 22nd in the 100-meter butterfly.
Open-water swimming
Finally, in open water, the Sud-Ouest women's team finished 11th in the relay (2x500 meters) and 19th in the mixed relay (2x500 meters).
What's on Monday
In baseball, the boys will face the Montreal team in the quarter-finals.
The same goes for the beach volleyball players. They are in the main draw. Heading for the quarter-finals against Centre-du-Québec.
The cyclists will take on the hills of Bas-Saint-Laurent in the road race (45km for the U15s and 60km for the U17s).
In basketball, it's the last game of the tournament for both teams: after two victories on Sunday, the girls take on Mauricie at 6pm. For their part, the boys will take the court at noon against Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.
Several swimming events, including the 5km Open Water queen event, and plenty of action on the athletics track. In triathlon, athletes will have fun in the relay event.
