Less than a week after the fire that ravaged Hudson's St-James Anglican Church, a social fundraising campaign has been launched via the GoFundMe platform.

The aim of the campaign is to raise $25,000 for the restoration of the almost two-hundred-year-old building. At the time of writing, $4,090 had been raised.

On Sunday, April 14, a fire broke out in the attic of the church's central section in the early morning. The fire quickly spread to the back and front of the building. More than 80 firefighters from nine fire departments were called to the scene, which ended at around 11:45pm on Sunday.

On the GoFundMe platform, the campaign objective is described as follows:

Following the devastating fire on April 14 that severely damaged St. James Anglican Church, the parish of Vaudreuil and surrounding communities are joining forces to support the rebuilding of this 182-year-old historic building.

A pillar of the Hudson landscape, this church means many things to many of its residents, past and present. If you've visited our town, you've undoubtedly passed by it, or perhaps stopped by to attend various local events or services.

The funds raised through this campaign will be used to restore the building, including many precious objects, to its former glory.

The organizers of the socio-financing campaign are also inviting citizens to share their stories and testimonials via the congregation's website.
