Another busy week draws to a close. Here's what's been in the news in Vaudreuil-Soulanges over the past few days.  

Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: construction work has begun

The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility Geneviève Guilbault and Soulanges MNA Marilyne Picard met with local elected officials at a press scrum on Monday, December 11, to announce the official start of reconstruction work on the new Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.

Vaudreuil-Dorion’s 2024 budget: slight increase in municipal tax

During a special meeting held on December 11th 2023, the City Council of Vaudreuil-Dorion, assisted by Olivier Van Neste – Director General, and Marco Pilon, FCPA, OMA – Director of Finance and Treasury, presented the 2024 budget in the order of $110.7 million.

Les Cèdres plans to spend $6.6 million on private water system in Lucerne sector

Last September, the Municipality of Les Cèdres announced that it had acquired the private water supply system in the Lucerne sector, scheduled for commissioning in May 2026. Two months later, the municipality is unveiling the timetable and financial aspects of the project.

Trucks banned from the right lane of Highway 20 during rush hour

Without giving any more details, Quebec has announced that, in the near future, the right-hand lane of Highway 20 will be closed to vehicles during rush hour.

Participatory Budget: Vaudreuil-Dorion unveils the winning project in the General category

During the extraordinary meeting for the 2024 budget, Marco Pilon - Director of Finance and Treasury, unveiled the winning project stemming from the Third edition of the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion’s participatory budget, namely the Outdoor Fitness Modules. 60% of citizens were in favour of this project while 40% of respondents preferred the proposed Water Access Point - Vieux Dorion. A total of 378 Vaudreuil-Dorion residents cast their vote on the online voting platform.

Gymini athletes put on a show at the Christmas Cup

Over 150 regional athletes took part in the Christmas Cup organized by Club Gymini de Vaudreuil-Dorion on December 8 and 9. The festive competition saw Gymini athletes take home no fewer than 36 medals.

Changes to come for the Festival de cirque de Vaudreuil-Dorion

As 2024 marks the 18th edition of the Festival de cirque de Vaudreuil-Dorion, the city has announced that the event that kicks off the summer vacations will undergo a rigorous analysis of its future.

Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: are toll rates on Autoroute 30 set to rise? 

Between 5% and 10% more vehicles are using the Autoroute 30 toll plaza in Les Cèdres since the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité Durable implemented mitigation measures due to the reconfiguration of the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.

Budget 2024: a 2.21% tax increase in Saint-Polycarpe

The Municipality of Saint-Polycarpe has announced a 2.21% property tax increase for 2024. A by-law to this effect was adopted on December 11, when the council presented and adopted its 2024 budget and its three-year capital expenditure program for the years 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Josiane Farand in Nicaragua: for real smiles and happiness

The photography exhibition Miskitos: Journey to the Heart of the Bosawás continues at the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges until February 4.

Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: speed limit reduced to 60 km/h

As of December 18, the speed limit on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge will be reduced to 60 km/h. In the construction zone on the approaches to the bridge, where more than one lane is open, the speed limit will remain at 70 km/h.
