During the extraordinary meeting for the 2024 budget, Marco Pilon - Director of Finance and Treasury, unveiled the winning project stemming from the Third edition of the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion’s participatory budget, namely the Outdoor Fitness Modules. 60% of citizens were in favour of this project while 40% of respondents preferred the proposed Water Access Point - Vieux Dorion. A total of 378 Vaudreuil-Dorion residents cast their vote on the online voting platform.

The Outdoor Fitness Module project, designed by three citizens, including Marc Chalifoux, Olivier Charbonneau and Martine Desrosiers, is intended to allow all citizens, regardless of age, to train free of charge, while helping to promote social interactions and developing healthy lifestyle habits.

The training structures, equipped with fixed bars, will be installed in one of the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion’s parks or green spaces. The exact location will be determined by the Recreation and Culture Department. The subsidy granted by the City amounts to $65,000.

Youth Category

This category was not put to a popular vote as only one project met the eligibility criteria among the four proposals received. The winning project, which was announced on November 3rd, is from Alexandria Diardichuk-Marinakis, and is entitled Jeunes artistes de Vaudreuil-Dorion : Paysages en fleurs.

With this project, in the form of a mural or several smaller works to be displayed in some of the City’s public spaces, Alexandra wishes to highlight the beauty of the City, its parks and its landscape, through the eyes of young artists.

Alexandra wishes to use art as a unifying agent between different cultures and hopes that this approach will allow young people to express their solidarity and pride in belonging to the Vaudreuil-Dorion community. Alexandria will develop her project in collaboration with the Recreation and Culture Department’s Culture and Community Life Division. The subsidy granted for the project is $10,000.

The initiative calls for citizen engagement that ultimately benefits the entire community, since the projects implemented respond directly to the needs expressed by the population. It’s also a great introduction to the City’s budget process," said Mayor Guy Pilon.
