Another eventful week is coming to an end. Here's what's been in the news in Vaudreuil-Soulanges over the past few days.   

Arson ravages Rigaud single-family home

Shortly before 12:30 a.m. last night, Rigaud firefighters were called to a single-family dwelling on rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste Est, opposite rue Roussin, which was engulfed in flames. The Sûreté du Québec confirms that the blaze is of criminal origin, and that a suspect has been apprehended.

Errances: A second edition for the Vaudreuil-Dorion Performing Arts Festival

The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is pleased to invite the public to take part in the second edition of Errances, the performing arts festival set to take place on September 8th and 9th in the following parks: Esther-Blondin, Le 405, Paul-Gérin-Lajoie and Maison-Valois.

Religious Heritage Days: two places to discover in Vaudreuil-Soulanges

The Conseil du patrimoine religieux du Québec (CPRQ) recently unveiled the 2023 program for the Journées du patrimoine religieux, to be held on September 8, 9 and 10. Many of the region's buildings will be featured.

Juicy beer breaks into the top 10 of the world's best beers

Vaudreuil-Dorion's Microbrasserie 3 Lacs continues to put the region on the map. Most recently, the company saw one of its beers, La Juicy, win the title of Best Pale Ale at the international World Drinks Awards competition.

"Plaidoyer pour la coopération" is launched by Colette Lebel

Co-op enthusiast and Vaudreuil-Dorion resident Colette Lebel has written a book, Plaidoyer pour la coopération, which has just been published by Fides. It hit bookstores on August 28.

MRC invests in the Maison Trestler

The MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges donates $25,000 to the Maison Trestler. 

Several projects to come this fall in Saint-Zotique

At the regular meeting of the Saint-Zotique municipal council held on Tuesday, August 29, elected officials authorized the awarding of several contracts related to Technical Services and Environmental Health.

Walk with the horses of Club équestre Les Forestiers

Following the success of the Stables Open House Day last June, the Club Équestre Les Forestiers (CEF), in partnership with the City of Saint-Lazare equestrian committee, present a guided walk in trails with CEF's riders and their horses. This event is scheduled for September 10, 2023, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at Parc nature Les Forestiers-de Saint-Lazare.

Claude DeBellefeuille on the front line with local media

Claude DeBellefeuille, MNA for Salaberry-Suroît, and Martin Champoux, Bloc Québécois Heritage critic and MNA for Drummond, held a press conference this morning with local media executives to denounce META's intimidation tactics following the passage of Bill C-18.         

Saint-Zotique obtains its Town status

Last March, the Municipality of Saint-Zotique announced its intention to submit a request to the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'Habitation (MAMH) for a change of name and municipal regime, in order to be renamed Ville de Saint-Zotique. On August 29, Mayor Yvon Chiasson confirmed that the MAMH is in favor of the new name. 

Youth Mural unveiled in Pointe-des-Cascades

On August 26, the Youth Mural was officially unveiled in Pointe-des-Cascades, in the presence of artist Madeleine Turgeon, Julie Lemieux, Mayor of Très-Saint-Rédempteur and President of the CACVS, and a number of children from the day camps, who were visibly pleased to have taken part.

Fania Séguin's resilience leads her to open for Michel Barrette

With strong roots in Vaudreuil-Soulanges, comedian Fania Séguin will be returning to her roots on Saturday, November 4. She'll be taking to the stage at the Collège Bourget auditorium, opening for Michel Barrette in a show organized by the Club optimiste de Rigaud.

Saint-Zotique wants to lower the speed limit on three of its streets

The Saint-Zotique municipal council has tabled a notice of motion to reduce the speed limit on three of its streets. The by-law amending by-law 609 relating to the speed of vehicles on public roads is expected to be adopted at the next meeting or by the end of 2023.

La Route des Arts de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, 2023 edition, is a cultural discovery trail offering the public the opportunity to visit several artists' and artisans' studios, while criss-crossing the roads of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region.  On September 16 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 25 artists from 8 local municipalities will welcome you to their studios to share their inspiration, their creative process and their works.

Teenager arrested driving a stolen vehicle

A 17-year-old teenager was arrested at around 4 a.m. this Thursday morning on the Île-aux-Tourte bridge, while attempting to flee from police officers at the wheel of a stolen vehicle in Saint-Lazare.

8th annual Bryan Liew Race set for September 10 in St-Lazare

It's time to register for the 8th annual Bryan Liew Race, a highlight of the local running calendar. Once again, the event will be held on the second Sunday of September, starting and finishing from the Westwood Park.

Saint-Zotique school to be completed by the end of September

While the last students attending the new École secondaire des Navigateurs in Saint-Zotique start their new school year on Friday, September 1, the construction site is not yet complete. The Centre de services scolaires des Trois-Lacs estimates that the work will be completed by the end of September.

Tribute to Ronald Hayes and inauguration of the Gracien anchor

On August 26, guests at Parc des Ancres in Pointe-des-Cascades were treated to a double celebration organized by the Société de recherches historiques Pointe-des-Cascades. The event paid tribute to Pointe-des-Cascades resident Ronald Hayes, builder and mayor for 25 years, and inaugurated the plaque and new anchor of the wrecked ship Gracien, adding to the hundred or so anchors already installed.
