Another busy week draws to a close. Here's what's been in the news in Vaudreuil-Soulanges over the past few days.    

Lumin'Art: a fourth edition more magical than ever from December 1

On Friday, December 1, Parc Le 405 will host the Lumin'Art exhibition for the fourth year running. Sixteen Vaudreuil-Dorion artists, along with students from 12 local school classes, have been inspired by the theme of Rêverie to create the works that will be presented to the public.

Buying local, more important than ever this year

Four Vaudreuil-Soulanges citizens fined by the Ministry of the Environment

The Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP) has released the list of 75 individuals who will be fined a total of $314,430 for various offences, mainly under the Act respecting the conservation and development of wildlife and the Fisheries Act, committed on Montérégie territory.

Les Coteaux wants to think it through before making a decision on the Centre sportif Soulanges project

At the regular Town Council meeting held in Les Coteaux on Monday, November 20, many citizens, young and old, wore jerseys from sports teams playing on the ice at the Centre sportif Soulanges. During the question period, the future of the regional sports facility was discussed. 

"We want the government to set an example" - Mathieu Miljours

"We're asking the government to set an example, show positive leadership and change its position on the parking lot issue for the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital", was the message delivered by Mathieu Miljours, General Director of the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Vaudreuil-Soulanges (CCIVS), during a press briefing at the National Assembly.

The elected representatives of Les Coteaux want to replace the municipal campsite with a park

The Municipality of Les Coteaux unveiled its plans for the municipal campground at 46 rue Principale on Monday, November 20, at the municipal council meeting. 

Vaudreuil-Dorion refuses to review its code of ethics and professional code of practice

On Monday, in the absence of Mayor Guy Pilon, Vaudreuil-Dorion councillors Luc Marsan, François Séguin, Paul Dumoulin and Paul Normand voted against the proposal by councillor Jasmine Sharma to amend the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for elected officials.

Just as in Les Coteaux the day before, the young field hockey players and skaters who practice their favorite pastime at the Centre sportif Soulanges in Saint-Polycarpe turned out in large numbers for the regular meeting of the Saint-Zotique municipal council this Tuesday, November 21. 

Composting platform: MRC abandons purchase of Saint-Télesphore land

Residents of Saint-Télesphore, Saint-Polycarpe, Rivière-Beaudette and surrounding areas were relieved to learn that the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges announced on Wednesday that it would not be purchasing the land for its regional composting platform project.

Five candidates in the Coteau-du-Lac by-election race

Citizens of Coteau-du-Lac's Elzéar-Deguire district will go to the polls on December 10 or 17 to elect their next representative at the municipal council table. There will be five candidates to choose from. 

Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: no game plan after discovery of a new crack

Nearly a week after the discovery of a new crack on the eastbound (Montreal) side of the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, the Ministère des Transports has yet to provide an update on the situation. 

Coteau-du-Lac wants to sell its old fire station

The municipality of Coteau-du-Lac wants to sell its former fire station on Principale street, in the heart of the village.

"Closing will be a catastrophe for all our players," Jean-François Beaulieu

Catastrophic. That's the word used by Jean-François Beaulieu, head of communications for the Association de hockey mineur de Soulanges (AHMS), regarding the possible closure of the Centre sportif Soulanges, located in Saint-Polycarpe, at the beginning of 2024, due to a lack of funding to keep it in operation.

400 educational games donated to two Vaudreuil-Soulanges organizations

The MRC received 400 educational games, L'émojeu, through the Fondation Jasmin Roy Sophie Desmarais and Fondation Desjardins. The games, designed for children aged 3 to 7, were given to the Centre Prénatal et Jeunes Familles and the Maison de la Famille Vaudreuil-Soulanges, part of the educational and social success committee of the Table territoriale de développement social durable de Vaudreuil-Soulanges.

Île-aux-Tourtes bridge completely closed this weekend

Déjà vu on the Vaudreuil-Soulanges road network. The Île-aux-Tourtes bridge will be completely closed from 11:59 p.m. this Friday, until 5 a.m. on Monday November 27.

Île-aux-Tourtes bridge: full reopening at least a year away

At present, the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable estimates that at least one year of work is required before the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge can be fully reopened.
