Four Vaudreuil-Soulanges citizens fined by the Ministry of the Environment
The Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP) has released the list of 75 individuals who will be fined a total of $314,430 for various offences, mainly under the Act respecting the conservation and development of wildlife and the Fisheries Act, committed on Montérégie territory.
Operation 57 took place on November 27, 2019, following a lengthy investigation and several reports and information received from citizens. The dismantling of this major poaching network, which involved nearly 75 individuals, required the participation of more than 100 wildlife protection officers. This anti-poaching operation mainly targeted:
The sale, purchase, illegal possession and exceeding of limits of fish, wild garlic and game;
Illegal catching of fish, mainly yellow perch, walleye, sturgeon and striped bass;
the use of live bait fish, a practice prohibited in Quebec.
The majority of cases were settled by guilty pleas to the prosecutor assigned to the operation.
