Don't put cigarette butts in flower pots

Did you know that nearly 𝟮𝟬% of residential fires are caused by smoking materials and their improper disposal? As the fine weather sets in and you increasingly enjoy outdoor activities, the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Fire Department services would like to remind you that flower pots are not ashtrays. 

These makeshift ashtrays, including flowerbeds and mulch, are a real fire hazard. This type of fire is particularly sneaky, as it can take several hours from the moment a cigarette butt is thrown away for the first flames to appear.

Be vigilant and extinguish your cigarette butts in the outdoor ashtrays provided in public places or, at home, use a deep tin filled with sand or water.
