A weekend of figure skating in Vaudreuil-Dorion

The Vaudreuil-Dorion arena vibrated to the rhythm of figure skating on Saturday, March 8, as the Club de patinage artistique de Vaudreuil-Dorion (CPARV) held its annual competition. This year's event was all the more special as the club celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Over 700 skaters, aged from 7 to 72, put in remarkable performances, before the eyes of spectators from all over Quebec and Ontario. Among them was a 72-year-old participant, proving that passion for the sport knows no age.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of our club, and we wanted to mark this important milestone with our annual competition,” explains Christine Dumais, President of the CPARV. For the occasion, special medals were awarded to deserving skaters in the Star 4 and over categories, while those registered in Star 1 to 3 received ribbons in the club's colors. A photobooth was also set up at the arena, allowing athletes and visitors to immortalize this momentous occasion.

The event was open to the public, offering a high-level show where beginners and experienced skaters rubbed shoulders. “Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children over 6. For the youngest, it's free,” says Ms. Dumais, inviting skating fans to come and cheer on these passionate athletes.

And for those who weren't able to attend the competition, the CPARV has another unique event in store: next April, the end-of-year show will welcome world champions Maxime Deschamps and Deanna Stellato-Dudek, a unique opportunity to see these skating greats in action.
