Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge
Complete closure of Highway 40 West
An accident involving five vehicles forced the complete closure of Highway 40 West at the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.
According to information obtained by Neomedia, the event would involve two heavy trucks and three cars. "We received the call around 2:15 pm. It is a car that would have been stuck between the two heavy vehicles. The extrication forceps were necessary to remove the driver from the car. He was transported to a hospital, but we do not fear for his life," confirms Camille Savoie, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
At the time of writing, at 4:15 p.m., towing crews were still working to tow the vehicles involved and the highway was still closed. In order to allow emergency services to intervene, one lane of traffic was also closed eastbound, still at the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge.
A detour via Highway 20 was put in place, once again complicating the crossing of the Galipeault Bridge and Île Perrot.
