While the implementation of remedial measures in the region's primary and secondary schools is set to begin in the next few days, the Centre de services scolaires des Trois-Lacs (CSSTL) is still unable to quantify the number of teachers who have volunteered.

"We're not in a position to say what proportion of our staff will take part in the catch-up plan. The schools are still working on their plans," confirmed Alexandra Desrochers, Coordinator, General Secretariat and Communications, by e-mail.

On January 9, Education Minister Bernard Drainville announced $300 million for a catch-up plan for the province's schools. The aim of the plan is to minimize the effects of the unlimited general strike that kept students away from school in November and December, by offering recovery periods during lunch hours or after classes. 

Being entirely voluntary, all the indications are that the number of teachers who have responded to the call is rather low at the CSSTL.

"We have already started to call on external resources to be prepared for all eventualities. Our goal is to ensure that our students have access to the help they need," continues Ms. Desrochers.

Néomédia Vaudreuil-Soulanges still has no answer to the question of what options will be offered to students in need of remedial teaching, should no teacher volunteer.
