It was at GF Urecon, 75 rue Dupont, that firefighters were called out earlier today, as the mercury hovered around -10 degrees. "The company specializes in making water supply pipes that are buried in the ground. They have industrial furnaces within their plant that operate at all times. It was in one of these that the fire started," explains Michel Vaillancourt, Director of the Coteau-du-Lac/Les Coteaux Fire Department.
The latter confirms that the blaze caused significant damage to the furnace and an electrical panel located near it. "We requested assistance from the Saint-Clet and Saint-Polycarpe fire departments for this intervention. When we arrived on site, the smoke was very dense. We ventilated the building. Company officials arrived quickly to give us access to the building. No one was on site at the time of the fire, so no injuries were reported", he concludes.
