Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac to appear in front of Quebec's Commission d'accès à l'information
The administration of the City of Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac will be called in front of the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec after requesting authorization to no longer have to consider requests filed by two citizens.
Unable to obtain answers to their questions during council meetings, and at the suggestion of Mayor Mario Tremblay, the residents in question would presumably have been forced to request access to specific information.
However, a source familiar with the matter told Néomédia that the Municipality had filed its request with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, due to requests judged to be abusive.
According to section 137.1 of the Act respecting access to documents held by public bodies and the protection of personal information, "the Commission may authorize a public body to disregard requests that are manifestly abusive in number, repetitive or systematic in nature, or a request the processing of which would be likely to cause serious harm to the activities of the body. It may also circumscribe the applicant's request or extend the time limit within which the public body must respond."
"It is important to specify that there is no animosity towards the citizens concerned. As indicated in section 137.1 of the Act, a request is considered abusive if it is filed repeatedly or in too large a number," said Jean-Pierre Roy, Acting General Manager, newly appointed to the position.
The Municipality of Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac will appear before the commission on October 25 and November 3.
