Traffic
A tough morning on the roads of Vaudreuil-Soulanges
It's the first official morning back to school, and to say the least, the end of vacation is taking its toll on the local road network.
Since early Tuesday morning, traffic jams have been reaching major proportions, on Autoroute 20 East, Autoroute 40 East and Autoroute 30 West.
At 10:20 a.m., traffic was at a complete standstill on Autoroute 30 Ouest, near the junction with Autoroute 40 Est. Crossing the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge and the Dorion sector in Vaudreuil-Dorion remained extremely difficult.
According to several sources, almost one motorist in two is using the carpool and public transit lane on Highway 40, without being entitled to do so.
This situation not only causes great frustration among motorists who comply with the regulations, but also creates a funnel effect at the end of the reserved lane.
Since last February, lanes have been set aside for public transit, cabs and carpooling in both directions on Highway 40.
Contacted last August, the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable confirmed to Néomédia, via its spokesperson Miguel Vizcaino-Dubé, that an update on the schedule for the work in progress and the timing of the reopening of a fifth lane should be provided in the coming weeks. Among other things, this reopening would enable the implementation of dynamic traffic management.
In any case, until then, drivers will have to be patient.
