Jeux du Québec: a successful mission for athletes from the Sud-Ouest
The atmosphere was festive at the closing ceremony of the 57th Finale des Jeux du Québec - Rimouski 2023.
"Participants from the Sud-Ouest had a lot of fun during these Games. The athletes delivered fine performances, some stood out and everyone had a memorable experience," sums up Chef de Mission Antoine Lépine-Perreault.
Highly notable performances
The Sud-Ouest finished the competition with two gold medals (men's baseball and sailing), one silver (track and field) and three bronze (golf, track and field, mountain bike).
In addition to these medals, the performances of all athletes placed the region 16th in the overall regional rankings.
As was the case with the athletes in the first block, many young people saw their sportsmanship rewarded. These included golfer Kevin Bertrand (Saint-Lazare), soccer player Mathis Ouellet (Saint-Zotique), coxswain Cedrik Dumais (Vaudreuil-Dorion) and volleyball player Chloé Caron (Pincourt).
"Our goal was to take advantage of all the opportunities offered to young people: we've really accomplished our mission!" concludes Mr. Lépine-Perreault, recreation advisor at Sport et Loisir Montérégie.
Sherbrooke will host Quebec's top athletes next winter, and Trois-Rivières will open its doors to Quebec delegations for the 59th Finale des Jeux du Québec in the summer of 2025.
