This weekend, March 7, 8 and 9, the Club de patinage artistique de Vaudreuil-Dorion (CPARV) will hold the 2025 edition of its annual competition. The event, which will bring together over 700 athletes from across Quebec, will take place at the arena on rue Jeannotte.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of our club, and we wanted to highlight this important milestone at our annual competition. We'll be awarding special medals to athletes finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Star 4 and over categories. For the others, i.e. the skaters registered in the Star 1 to 3 categories, they will receive ribbons in the Club colors. A photoboot will also be set up in the arena to allow athletes and visitors alike to immortalize their time with us this year,” says CPARV President Christine Dumais.

Wall-to-wall competitions from Friday to Sunday

A total of 729 athletes between the ages of 7 and 72 will descend on Vaudreuil-Dorion over the weekend to shine in their respective categories. Of these, at least 200 will be from outlying regions, and will need to be accommodated locally for the weekend. “That's why the competition takes place during spring break. It's easier for the participating athletes,” she observes.

This Friday, March 7, the competitions will start at 9 a.m. and finish on Sunday, March 9, at 4:30 p.m. Both the Vaudreuil and Dorion ice rinks will be used for this major event.

In addition to the attention-grabbing acrobatics on the ice, there will also be a celebrity wall highlighting the participating athletes. “Interested parties will be able to write notes to the athletes on the sheet provided for each of them. Each of them will have an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet to hold the messages, and we'll also be giving the athletes a video of their performance.”

“The athletes performing come from figure skating clubs in Quebec and Ontario, and some are adults. The oldest participant to put on her skates is 72. It's going to be impressive. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children over 6. For the youngest, it's free. We'll see beginners and experienced skaters alike on the ice,” she adds.

The arena's snack bar will be open during the event for spectators interested in eating there. Throughout the weekend, some sixty volunteers will be putting their shoulders to the wheel to ensure the smooth running of the event. “We're still looking for volunteers to help us with various tasks,” says Ms. Dumais.

Some 50 judges and officials will also be on hand to award marks to participating athletes.

For figure skating fans, later in April, the Club de patinage artistique de Vaudreuil-Dorion will hold its year-end show, featuring world champions Maxime Deschamps and partner Deanna Stellato-Dudek.
