Over the next few months, the Fondation de la Cité-des-Jeunes will invest $80,000 to support three projects that will take place on the campus of the high school of the same name in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

The organization will invest $53,000 to implement the first project, which will be a new sports arena. Piloted by a school adaptation teacher, its development will be largely funded by the Foundation, namely the purchase of three rabaska (canoes), as well as a trailer, oars and all the equipment to allow sport on water to our students of school adaptation and training for those of the multisport program. This project will be launched in May, if the deadline is met.

The second initiative, which will be funded with $17,000, will take the form of a mosaic crop.  Supported by the teacher of the plastic arts program, we help finance the creative project of a mosaic culture that will combine the art of botany, stained glass and large-format sculpture. The launch of this natural artwork is scheduled for next June.

Finally, a fence will be installed around the Cité-des-Jeunes vegetable garden with an investment of $10,000 from the Foundation. Three years ago, the school team set up an urban vegetable garden on campus. It is now time to close the site to facilitate the continuation and improvement of the project.

Promote student success and development

For those interested, it was in the 1970s that the current Foundation took its roots, then bearing the name of «La Villa des jeunes de Vaudreuil Inc. ».  At the time, it was a safe gathering place and supervised by parents and teachers so that students could enjoy leisure. It was a centre where classes, conferences, theatre or film sessions and other social gatherings could be organized and held.

Then over time, these leisure activities were integrated into school through extracurricular activities. Foundation administrators remained attentive to the need for success in education.

It was therefore in 2017, on the 50th anniversary of Cité-des-Jeunes, that its Foundation revised its objectives. While maintaining a focus on low-income families and its support for extracurricular life, under the registered charity entity, the City FoundationYouth for Student Life as we know it today has the mission to promote the success and development of all students in the Cité-des-Jeunes.

Its mission and actions are based on the following 3 main vectors:

- Convey the success that is possible for all;

-Foster a sense of belonging;

- Strengthen ties between the region and the succession;

La Fondation de la Cité-des-Jeunes promotes the educational success and development of students through various financial aids and is based on success for all despite the challenges. These grants are translated into individualized support to the student (learning difficulties, extracurricular participation, scholarships for perseverance) and through support for the school’s dynamism by supporting, among other things, didactic projects that affect all spheres of theYouth (sports, art, science and other).

This financial assistance benefits all staff working with students at the Cité des Jeunes, as it allows students to access the tools they need. The Foundation is a key contributor to supporting students' future in becoming confident adults, says the organization’s website.
