The citizens of Saint-Polycarpe are invited, on Friday, February 21, to a 5 à 7 particular which will take place in the heart of the church of Saint-Polycarpe. The event aims to reflect on the next vocation of this centenary religious building built between 1834 and 1839.

At the regular meeting of the city council on Monday, February 10, Ronald Blanchette, the churchwarden, came to the microphone during the question period to invite people to participate in large numbers in this appointment.

”I am a member of the Parish Council of Notre-Dame-des-Champs. As you know, we met the other day to discuss the possibility of selling the church to the municipality, which I understand from our various discussions is not an interesting option for you because you wouldn’t know what to do with it. So I have undertaken the mission to find projects that could be placed there. Therefore, a 5 to 7 is organized in this sense on February 21,” he shared with the elected officials.

The meeting, where guests can eat and drink, aims to exchange ideas about the future of the church and the various projects that could be created there.  “We had fun thinking about what to do with the building. Soon it will not be a church. Do we want to keep the building? Destroy it? Convert it into a housing facility? Do we want to convert it into a place for recreation? We have a list of projects, but we want to know the citizens' ideas on the subject,” he added.

While everyone is welcome, Mr. Blanchette hopes that families and youth will join the 5-7. “We hope people show up to church with their children and grandchildren. Board games will be offered on site to occupy them during the discussion. The people will be able to enter through the back doors and they will be directed to the right place. The activity is free, but a voluntary contribution will be requested at the end of the evening. A buffet provided by several merchants of Saint-Polycarpe will be offered free of charge on site,” he concluded.
