The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion has announced the return of the Ecoprojects Community Fund for its fourth edition. Until February 28, residents, non-profit organizations, and public institutions in Vaudreuil-Dorion are invited to submit environmentally-focused project proposals that could benefit the community.

Selected initiatives will receive funding of up to $5,000 for implementation.

"For several years now, we have aimed to promote citizen participation. This is why we established the participatory budget, which includes a general component and a youth component, as well as the Ecoprojects Community Fund, which specifically targets environmentally-focused projects. Annually, a total of $100,000 is allocated to citizen initiatives. I strongly encourage our population to take this opportunity to propose projects that can benefit the community," said Mayor Guy Pilon.

Examples of Eligible Projects for the Ecoprojects Community Fund

  • Development of pollinator gardens, urban and edible forests, and tree planting in connected green spaces
  • Workshops on environmental themes (e.g., waste management, zero waste)
  • Community cleanup events
  • Funding for educational environmental programs (e.g., “Cycliste averti,” “Bourse du carbone Scol’ERE”)
  • Organization of an environmental conference or event
  • Purchase of a collective composter
  • Workshops promoting repair of broken items to encourage zero waste practices
  • Acquisition of zero-waste equipment for public institutions or non-profits
  • Implementation of a bike-sharing system
  • Projects that reduce environmental pollution (e.g., rain gardens)

Success Stories

In 2024, three organizations were awarded funding to carry out their projects thanks to this fund:

  • L’Atelier paysan for the “Brigade jardin dans les parcs” project
  • The environmental committee of École du Papillon-Bleu, Saint-Jean-Baptiste campus, for improving waste sorting
  • École Brind’Amour for planting mature trees

Aligning with Strategic Planning

The Ecoprojects Community Fund is part of the 2020 > 2025 Strategic Plan: Inhabited by My City, which promotes citizen participation. It aims to encourage initiatives that highlight and protect the environment in line with Vaudreuil-Dorion’s environmental policy themes, including water resource protection, urban agriculture, waste management, climate change adaptation, biodiversity, and natural habitats.

Full details of the Ecoprojects Community Fund, along with application forms, are available in the Environment section of the City’s website at ville.vaudreuil-dorion.qc.ca.
