The Macdonald Campus Farm in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue champion for milk quality

Agropur announces that McGill University’s Macdonald Campus Farm in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue has been named the Regional Champion for Milk Quality. This award is awarded after an assessment of milk quality over a 12-month period, followed by an inspection of the milking environment.

The Macdonald Campus Farm has been named a regional champion for milk quality ten times since 2008.

Efforts are rewarded

Founded in 1907, McGill’s Macdonald Campus Farm is a teaching and research farm. She has a herd of 84 lactating cows, mostly Holstein.

“We are very proud of this great achievement and the fact that we have won this award in a context where many people are involved,” says Janice Pierson, General Manager of the farm. The success of the farm is due to the collective capacity of management and staff to integrate and train employees and students, as well as implement and maintain adherence to protocols and best practices. The team is open-minded, adaptable to change and continually looking for effective and productive solutions to improve its practices and results,” she adds.

The farm participates in Agropur’s Sustainable Farms program, which collects valuable information on the performance, level of improvement and results of participating farms to support the adoption of best practices in environmental and healthbeing an animal.

Farms that stand out  

Since its creation 36 years ago, the Club of Excellence has highlighted the dynamism of more than 500 member farms of Agropur. The commitment of our dairy farmers is fundamental to ensuring quality and healthy products, says Mr. Roger Massicotte, President of Agropur. I am particularly pleased that the Club of Excellence has been able to motivate producers to improve and push their limits. I would like to warmly congratulate our Regional Champions, this recognition is a testament to their daily dedication to producing exceptional milk.”

Among the 13 regional champions, a Grand Champion, Quality of Milk award, and a Grand Champion, Animal Welfare award, will be named next February at Agropur’s annual general meeting.
