Good news, if there is any, the closure of the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge scheduled for this weekend will be shortened due to weather conditions. The bridge will now be accessible to traffic by Sunday, December 8, at the latest by 5 a.m., instead of the originally planned closure until Monday, December 9.

According to Environment Canada, 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected to accumulate during the night from Saturday to Sunday, accompanied by winds of up to 15 km/h. The temperature will rise to zero overnight, with a wind chill of -6°C in the evening.

As for Sunday, the region can expect a mix of rain and snow throughout the day. It is important to note that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility had previously announced the complete closure of the bridge to adjust the configuration of the Highway 40 lanes near the bridge.

Thus, starting from Friday, December 6, at 11:59 p.m.:

Complete closure of Highway 40 westbound between Exit 41 – Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue / Boulevard des Anciens-Combattants / Highway 20 westbound / Île Perrot, and the entry from Saint-Charles Avenue.

Westbound, access to Senneville Road will remain open for local traffic.

Complete closure of Highway 40 eastbound between Exit 35 – Vaudreuil-sur-le-Lac / Vaudreuil-Dorion / Saint-Charles Avenue, and the entrance from Boulevard des Anciens-Combattants.

The ramp from Highway 40 eastbound to the Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge will be closed at the interchange with Highway 30. Drivers are encouraged to use Highways 20 and 30 instead.

Detour routes will be marked with temporary signage.

During this closure, the public is encouraged to use public transport and take advantage of the mitigation measures in place. The toll will be suspended until Sunday morning, 5 a.m., in both directions on Highway 30 to provide an additional option.

The Ministry recommends that road users who need to travel in the area allow extra time to reach their destination.
