At his annual general meeting, Dominique Pilon, assistant director of CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest, which will become Santé Québec Montérégie on Sunday, gave an update on the Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital construction site. Construction of the hospital is well underway and on schedule. 

Road users who take Highway 20 in Vaudreuil-Dorion on a daily basis are noticing the progress of the imposing construction site. 

“According to the latest news obtained this Wednesday morning, the worksite is progressing well. Workers have completed the exterior of Block A, the smallest, and are now in the electrical and plumbing stages. For Module B, workers are currently pouring the concrete slab on the 10th floor. The building will have 13 floors. Rest assured, there won't be any patients on the top floor, but rather the technical room,” confided Mr. Pilon on the project, which has a budget of $2.6 billion. 

Some 400 workers have been hard at work for several months on this site, which is the largest infrastructure project in the region. The future hospital is the largest healthcare project in Quebec and the second largest in Canada, as reported in Renew Canada's 2023 annual report.

The Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital construction site is the largest caisson project in North America to date. The new 132,340 m² building will be divided into two pavilions. The first will house the majority of the project's ambulatory and support functions, as well as the auditorium, reception facilities and laboratories. The second, 13-storey pavilion will house the majority of critical functions, such as emergency, operating theatre, medical imaging and all care units. 

In all, 404 beds will be accommodated in the future hospital. There will also be three shock rooms and 10 ZER chairs. The operating theatre will comprise 11 rooms. 

The first patient is still scheduled for 2026.
