This weekend, the Canadian figure skating pair of Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps continued their dominance on the ISU Grand Prix circuit at the Finlandia Trophy, held in Helsinki, Finland, when they won the gold medal in dominant fashion and qualified for the Grand Prix Final.

In ice dance, Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier were also on the podium when they won the silver medal.

Stellato-Dudek, from Chicago, USA, and Deschamps, from Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, entered the competition fresh from their victory at Skate Canada International in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and presented a reworked free program that secured them victory with a total score of 207.44 points, well clear of silver medallists Maria Pavlova and Alexei Sviatchenko, from Hungary, who scored a total of 184.21 points. Italy's Rebecca Ghilardi and Filippo Ambrosini took bronze with a total score of 181.59 points.

“ We made some improvements over Skate Canada ,” said Stellato-Dudek of the revised program. “ We changed the order of the elements, which seemed to be better received and felt better on our part. We still have a few technical issues and we'll have to work on them, but everything, short and long term, has been better than at our last competition, which is all we can ask for. ”

The ISU Grand Prix circuit continues from November 22 to 24, 2024 at the China Cup held in Chongqing, China. This will be the last opportunity for skaters to qualify for the Grand Prix Final to be held December 5-8, 2024 in Grenoble, France.
