It was in 1974 that the Parish and Village of Saint-Clet decided to become one and merge their respective activities. Fifty years later, in 2024, the municipal administration has decided to mark this important moment in the locality's history with a commemorative plaque.

The plaque was unveiled on Sunday, September 8, during Municipality Week. For the occasion, representatives of the current municipal council joined the families and friends of the mayors who have been involved since the merger, as well as the municipality's partners and citizens.

For those interested, the plaque is located on the façade of the heritage building (former church) near the gazebo, at the corner of routes 340 and 201. The purpose of the plaque is to pay tribute to the elected officials who have worked so hard on this project since its inception.

The inscription reads as follows:

« Saint-Clet mayors Maurice Desforges and Florent Besner have taken the necessary steps with Charles-Édouard Leduc, mayor of Saint-Clet parish, to merge the two municipalities and modernize municipal infrastructures and services.»

Maurice Desforges was mayor from 1962 to 1973, while Florent Besner was mayor from 1973 to 1974.

The plaque also features photos of other important elected officials in the history of the little town: Charles-Édouard Leduc, who held office from 1974 to 1977; André Leroux, who served a 17-year term from 1977 to 1994; Gilles Farand, who succeeded him until 2013; Daniel Beaupré, who won the confidence of Cletois until 2021; and Mylène Labre, who has held office ever since.

Will there be more celebrations of this moment later this fall? The next festivities will be held in 2025 to mark the municipality's 175th anniversary. The program will be released shortly,” says local general manager Nathalie Pharand.

What was the budget for making and installing the plaque?  A very reasonable amount, according to the municipal administration. This figure cannot be disclosed at this time, as not all invoices relating to the project have yet been compiled.
