The Service de sécurité incendie Pincourt/NDIP and the towns of Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot and Pincourt are pleased to announce an agreement with the Coopérative des techniciens ambulanciers de la Montérégie (CÉTAM) for the positioning of an ambulance at fire station 26 in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot.
This one-year pilot project will enable CÉTAM paramedics to park an ambulance vehicle on the site of fire station 26.
”Following revelations in the media last spring about the response times of ambulance services in the region, we were very enthusiastic to receive CÉTAM's proposal to park an ambulance at fire station 26,” explains Danie Deschênes, mayor of Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot. This strategic positioning in the center of Île Perrot will undoubtedly optimize ambulance coverage and improve response times for all residents of the island's towns.”
The presence of paramedics at fire station 26 will also be advantageous from an operational point of view. “By working side by side on a regular basis, the Pincourt/NDIP SSI and CÉTAM teams will have the chance to share their experiences and skills, which will improve joint response procedures and increase inter-service efficiency,” says Claude Comeau, mayor of Pincourt.
According to Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux data on average response times for priority 0 and 1 calls in Quebec, from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023, average response times were 17 min. 31 sec. and 12 min. 6 sec. in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot and Pincourt respectively.
A response time of less than 10 minutes is the preferred time for the arrival of an ambulance in an emergency situation. However, barely a handful of towns and municipalities in Quebec manage to achieve this objective, due to insufficient ambulances on the roads, manpower shortages, mobilization for non-emergency calls and the overloading of the healthcare network, which means that ambulance drivers are often stuck in hospital waiting for their stretcher to become available.
An ambulance will be stationed at fire station 26 from October 1.
