The “Un arbre pour mon quartier” campaign returns to Pincourt
Organized by the Regroupement des éco-quartiers and Soverdi, the Un arbre pour mon quartier campaign is back in Pincourt.
Thanks to the Regroupement des éco-quartiers (REQ) and their financial support, notably from the Town of Pincourt, the Société de verdissement du Montréal métropolitain (Soverdi) and the Alliance forêt urbaine, the opportunity to make spaces greener is now within reach.
In fact, trees are available at very attractive prices, thanks to the cities that pay a first portion of the costs. Residents of subsidized cities can then purchase one or more trees at low cost.
Instead of costing a hundred dollars, they can be purchased for between $25 and $55, depending on the type and species, whether it's a deciduous, coniferous or fruit tree.
The benefits of trees
Everyone knows that trees are responsible for providing us with oxygen and purifying the air, but few know that they also capture CO2. As a result, they considerably reduce heat islands, retain water in the soil and decontaminate it.
For neighborhoods near agricultural fields, lakes and rivers, trees act as barriers against strong winds. Energy is thus better conserved, whether in summer or winter.
Not only is planting a tree highly aesthetic, with the variety of foliage and color available on the market, it is a major addition to the value of a plot of land.
Trees also greatly enhance biodiversity by creating habitats and food for animals.
Planting a tree can also be a highly symbolic gesture. When a child is born, a tree can be planted, and the child will see the tree grow with him or her.
At the death of a loved one, some people plant a memorial tree to serve as a memorial monument.
