Following the floods
Pincourt: new grant for backflow prevention valves
Following the major flooding caused by Storm Debby on August 9, Ville de Pincourt has adopted a draft by-law to subsidize the installation and acquisition of backwater valves in residences.
The by-law, which is essential to strengthening the community's resilience in the face of climatic hazards, provides for a subsidy of up to $500 per residence. The program is aimed primarily at homes affected by the recent flooding, but is also available to all residences in the city not yet equipped with this device.
Support for affected residents
Since August 9, Ville de Pincourt has been working hard to support residents affected by the storm. In addition to this new subsidy, the town has suspended renovation permit fees for affected homeowners, and sent emotional support teams to the streets in the areas hardest hit by Storm Debby.
These initiatives are aimed at easing the burden on citizens during this difficult period and helping them to recover quickly. In addition, City crews continue to support residents with the collection and disposal, sector by sector, of building materials normally destined to be deposited at the Ecocentre by residents themselves.
A special collection of large refuse began on August 21, in advance of the regular collection on August 28.
Solidarity with affected citizens
Claude Comeau, Mayor of Pincourt, expressed his and the Town Council's solidarity with the citizens affected: “Our thoughts are with all those affected by the flooding on August 9. Ville de Pincourt stands by you, and we will continue to do everything we can to support you through this ordeal. By adopting this draft by-law, we are demonstrating our commitment to helping our citizens adapt their homes to the reality in which we have been living for several years. This ordeal is another opportunity to prove the resilience of our community, and together we will overcome these challenges.”
The precise terms and conditions of this grant will be communicated when the bylaw is finally adopted in September 2024. For further information, citizens are invited to visit the City's website and the B-Citi+ platform. Our Urban Planning Department team will be able to answer your questions once the program has been duly adopted.
