With just over a week to go before the start of the new school year, thirty teachers are still needed at the Centre de services scolaires des Trois-Lacs.

The latest figures from the Ministry of Education, available as of August 16, show that a total of 30 teachers are still missing from the 1,222 positions at the TSSLC. This represents 2.5% of requirements.

As for the Lester-Bearson School Board, 215 teaching positions are still to be filled out of a total of 2,147. However, as the English-language organization also covers part of Montreal, it is impossible at present to know how many positions are available on the Vaudreuil-Soulanges territory.

It's important to point out that there has been some improvement since 2023, when some 50 teachers were still being sought by the CSSTL.

At a press conference last Friday, Education Minister Bernard Drainville stressed that this improvement would depend on the new August 8 assignment system. In the past, the majority of teachers learned at the end of August, or even the day before or after the start of the school year.

Although there are 20,000 more students to place province-wide, Mr. Drainville assures us that they have managed to find a place for them. However, the limit has been reached and difficult choices have had to be made, including closing 4-year-old kindergarten classes or simply not opening any in certain schools. Instead, francization classes had to be opened, as a large proportion of new students are new arrivals.
