His license has been confiscated and he can't drive for a year
Local man fined $3,000 for drinking and driving
On Friday August 9, Quebec Court Judge Mylène Grégoire imposed a $3,000 fine on Sébastien Primeau, a local man convicted of driving while impaired by alcohol.
The offence occurred while the accused was behind the wheel of his vehicle on rue Sainte-Catherine in Saint-Polycarpe. At civic address 170, Mr. Primeau was involved in a road accident in October 2021. Fortunately, no one was injured. It was Mr. Primeau who contacted the authorities to inform them of the situation and his condition. He admitted to having consumed several beers in the preceding hours while attending a baseball game at a local stadium.
Before the judge, Mr. Primeau pleaded guilty to count one, while a conditional stay of proceedings was issued on count two.
“My client is not a habitual user. At the time of the events, he was suffering from depression. He was on sick leave. Since the events, he has taken control of his life. He no longer uses drugs and has moved in with his parents. He has no criminal record, and we can't guarantee his future, but this is an isolated act,” explains Me. Alexandre Dubé, the accused's lawyer, told the judge during his client's appearance.
In view of these facts, the judge decided to follow the prosecutors' recommendations in the case, imposing a $3,000 fine on the accused, to be paid within the next year, along with a 12-month driving prohibition. His licence was confiscated, and he will have to refrain from getting behind the wheel of any motor vehicle in Canada for the next year.
