Free meningitis vaccination for 14- to 17-year-olds
The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de la Montérégie-Ouest (CISSSMO) is inviting young people aged between 14 and 17 to make an appointment for a free meningitis vaccination, just before the start of the new school year. It's the perfect opportunity to protect yourself while continuing to enjoy a carefree summer.
According to the French Ministry of Health and Social Services, meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges (thin membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord) and the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Meningitis is most often caused by infection, but can also be attributable to a multitude of infectious agents, especially viruses and bacteria. These microorganisms are responsible for 2 major entities with quite distinct clinical manifestations, treatments and prognoses: viral meningitis and bacterial meningitis.
