Only 12 of the 26 classrooms will be ready to welcome students
The new Cedars elementary school will not be fully ready for the start of the 2024-2025 school year
According to information shared by District 6 Councillor Lyndsay Simard at the most recent meeting of the Cedars Municipal Council, held on Tuesday, July 9, the new Cedars Elementary School will not be fully ready for the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Only twelve of the 26 classrooms announced at the official groundbreaking will be ready to welcome students by the end of August.
This was confirmed at the public meeting after Gilles Proulx asked the question. Ms. Simard is a member of the school's parents' committee.
"The twelve premises that will be ready will accommodate students enrolled in 4-year-old kindergarten, 5-year-old kindergarten and grades 1 and 2. Then, gradually, in phases, other classrooms will be ready to welcome students. I can confirm that grades 3 to 6 will remain at École Marguerite-Bourgeoys for the 2024-2025 school year. It has been confirmed that the Centre de services scolaires will do its best to maximize the use of the school's modular classrooms," she added.
For his part, Mayor Bernard Daoust pointed out that an agreement has been reached with the CSSTL for the use of these modular classrooms until 2027. "At present, we haven't had any clear details on the future vocation of the Marguerite-Bourgeoys school. We don't know what the CSSTL intends to do with it," he concluded.
Néomédia contacted the CSSTL to confirm this information, but was unable to do so due to the construction vacations.
