Water meter installation: volunteers needed in Les Coteaux
The Municipalité des Coteaux is looking for 60 volunteers to install water meters free of charge. By volunteering, participants stand a chance of winning one of 5 local gift cards worth $100, redeemable at over 125 stores and restaurants throughout Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
The Municipality would like to point out that the installation of a water meter will not affect the tax bill of participating homeowners, but will give them access to their consumption data, enabling them to better manage their water use. She also points out that the meters will not be used for billing water consumption.
The installation of water meters is part of the Stratégie québécoise d'économie d'eau potable (SQEEP) of the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'Habitation, one of whose main objectives is to reduce the amount of water distributed per person by 20% by 2025, compared with 2015.
Another SQEEP objective is to reduce residential drinking water consumption to the Ontario average of 184 litres/person/day (l/pers/d).
According to the most recent data updated on July 9 by the MAMH, in 2022, the average consumption of drinking water in the region was 248 l/pers/d. The consumption target is 184 l/pers/d. The quantity of water distributed was 307 l/pers/d.
It is important to point out that there has been an improvement compared with 2021, when daily consumption per person was 281 liters.
Homeowners wishing to volunteer can now fill in the form available on the Municipality's website, under the News tab.
