Vaudreuil-Dorion-born cyclist Jonathan Hinse finished stage 6 of the Tour de l'Abitibi Glencore in 1st place.

The athlete covered the 124.8 kilometers in a time of 2 hours, 58 minutes and 46 seconds. After a slightly more difficult start to the competition, Hinse was able to climb back to the top of the pleton after finishing 2nd in stages 4 and 5.

Sanctioned by the Union des cyclistes internationale, the Tour de l'Abitibi Glencore is the only competition on the Junior Nations Cup circuit to be held in America. At the end of the seven-stage race, the 150 or so participating cyclists will have covered almost 700 kilometers in seven days.

On the road to China

In mid-August, Jonathan Hinse will fly to China to take part in the Track Cycling World Championships.

“Unlike road racing, track cycling is more intense and faster. The competitions are held indoors on a 250-meter track, and our bike has no gears and no brakes. You have to set the speed manually before the race, and you can't change it once you've started. A maximum of 24 riders start, and the longest race consists of 120 laps of the track. Road races require more endurance, as they can include climbs and last for several hours”, he confided in an interview with Néomédia in recent weeks.

To prepare for this international competition, Jonathan will be taking part in a training camp with the Canadian team. “I've already competed indoors on this type of bike and track. My results were good, so I'm not too worried about my performance,” he concluded, happy and aware of his good fortune.
