As of Wednesday, June 12, the municipality of Rigaud is inspecting all residential outdoor pools with a water capacity of 60 cm or more, whether in-ground, semi-in-ground, above-ground or demountable (inflatable or other), as well as spas containing more than 2,000 liters of water.

All pool owners are required to bring their pools into compliance with the Quebec government's Règlement sur la sécurité des piscines résidentielles by September 30, 2025, without exception, regardless of when they were installed, including owners of pools installed before November 1, 2010 who were previously exempt.

The purpose of these upgrades is to limit access by young children and prevent drowning. Failure to comply could result in fines ranging from $500 to $1,000 per day until the installation is brought into compliance.

Considering that these standards could require major investments to adapt installations, it's essential that owners take note of them today and plan the work. September 30, 2025 is fast approaching.

Pending inspection, owners who wish to validate their installations or plan new ones can consult the self-assessment forms on the Quebec government website.

They can also contact the Urban Planning Division for assistance. A permit is required for the construction, installation, upgrading or replacement of a swimming pool, spa over 2,000 liters, and all related installations (fence, deck, terrace, etc.).

For more information, contact the Urban Planning Division by e-mail at [email protected] or by leaving a message at 450 451-0869, ext. 245.
