A directory of resources for seniors is launched
The Table de concertation des aînés de Vaudreuil-Soulanges launched its new resource directory, listing over 50 organizations offering assistance and services for people aged 50 and over.
Entitled "Ressources pour les 50 ans et plus" (Resources for the 50+), this brochure is the reference tool of choice
of choice, grouping community organizations and their contact details by category:
- Activities and cognitive alertness
- Food and nutrition
- Advocacy and complaints,
- Help line, housing
- Elder abuse
- Taxation
- Support, help and accompaniment
- Support for caregivers
- Medical transportation
A print run of 5,000 bilingual (French and English) copies was produced and distributed by the organizations, as well as in collaboration with the Sûreté du Québec de la MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges as part of specific prevention activities. A digital version is also available on several organizations' websites, notably www.carrefourbienveillance.org.
Maintaining the "Soyons aimants envers les aîné.es" (Let's be kind to our elders ) awareness campaign through door-to-door canvassing is a privileged moment for workers who distribute the directory and take the time to talk with seniors. Through this campaign, the members of the TCAVS hope to fight against elder abuse, but also to promote good elder care.
Sergeant Catherine Sénéchal, local community policing coordinator for the Sûreté du Québec, reminds us that elder abuse is a reality in the MRC: "The Sûreté du Québec is proud to have participated in the development of a resource directory for people aged 50 and over. This tool provides better information on organizations, websites and contacts to refer to following a problem experienced in Vaudreuil and Soulanges. This pamphlet is an essential resource in the fight against elder abuse.
The General Manager of Caisse Desjardins de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Sébastien Laliberté, believes that communication remains a key element in supporting seniors in their life journey, which they hope will be safe and caring: " The region has an abundance of community resources. It's our duty to support initiatives that promote the quality of information that contributes to everyone's well-being. Desjardins Vaudreuil-Soulanges is proud to have contributed financially to this project," concluded Mr. Laliberté.
