In connection with acts committed in a conjugal context
Ex-Colorado Avalanche striker Patrick Bordeleau was back in court
Patrick Beaupré-Bordeleau, a native of Vaudreuil-Soulanges, was back in court at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse on Tuesday, June 11.
The former professional athlete is facing two charges: assault, specifically choking, suffocating or strangling a victim, and assault. Some of the acts were allegedly committed in a marital context.
For this appearance, where his presence was mandatory, Mr. Bordeleau was represented by Me. Jacques Vinet. Mr. Vinet handed over the evidence gathered in the case to his opposite number, Crown prosecutor Elizabeth Pelletier, who is the voice of the prosecution in this case.
However, the accused will have to find another lawyer for his future representations before the Court, since Mr. Vinet has announced that he is withdrawing from the case.
"I'm not on bad terms with the accused, but I'd prefer him to find another lawyer," he told judge Marie-Chantal Doucet.
In March 2020, Judge Bertrand St-Arnaud sentenced Patrick Beaupré to 102 days in prison on charges of fraud, criminal harassment and breach of probation, for a three-year contract worth over $1 million per year in the NHL.
In court, Patrick Beaupré Bordeleau stated that he was awaiting psychosocial assistance. His case has been postponed until Wednesday, September 18, by which time he will have decided on the identity of his new lawyer.
The alleged victim is also facing a criminal charge of assault causing bodily harm against Patrick Beaupré-Bordeleau.
