Marilyne Picard, MNA for Soulanges, on behalf of Geneviève Guilbault, Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, and Benoit Charette, Minister of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, announces $799,376 in financial assistance to the Town of Saint-Lazare to encourage the population to opt for active mobility.

The funding, granted under the Programme d'aide financière au développement des transports actifs dans les périmètres urbains (TAPU), will be used to build a multi-use trail in the school zone.

"I am delighted with this financial assistance for the development of active transportation in our beautiful region. This multi-use trail will have a positive impact on our quality of life and the safety of all road users, especially students and the most vulnerable. I'm delighted that our government is taking action so that Soulange residents can enjoy a safe and healthy means of transportation,” said Marilyne Picard.

The projects are financed through TAPU, a program stemming from the Plan for a Green Economy 2030, which aims to encourage Quebecers to opt for active modes of transport, such as cycling and walking, as an alternative to the car-solo. In addition to helping combat climate change, active transportation is good for your health. What's more, the projects are consistent with the Road Safety Action Plan 2023-2028, since they contribute to improving the supply of cycling infrastructure and making travel safer for more vulnerable users.

Unveiled in August 2023 by the Minister, this plan, inspired by Vision Zero, presents 27 measures to reduce the number of accidents on the road network, as well as their severity.
