June 6 to 9
Storytellers make their way to Les Seigneuriales
From June 6 to 9, 2024, don't miss the 32nd edition of Les Seigneuriales de Vaudreuil-Dorion. Under the theme Une histoire de famille, this major historical festival, produced by the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges and made possible with the help of numerous partners, celebrates the descendants of seigneurial families.
“It was when we became aware of all the family ties and the different types of families that make up the event's large family that the choice of theme became obvious! It's important to highlight all the people who have made the Seigneuriales de Vaudreuil-Dorion a family affair, woven together over the years,” says Christiane Lévesque, the event's executive producer.
Spokesperson for this historic celebration since 2010, speaker, storyteller and Roi des menteurs Éric Michaud will once again be on hand. With his disconcerting repartee, he'll charm you with his unique approach: a clever blend of history and humor.
Programming :
- The ever-popular Concours de la grande menterie en Nouvelle-France will be held on Friday evening, June 7, when several storytellers will take to the stage to entertain you with their wild tales. The Musée régional had announced the sad news that last year's chicken had passed away. Fortunately, a new hen has been found to act as ambassador for the Concours de la grande menterie en Nouvelle-France. Just as we've been looking for, she's kind, docile, redheaded and available on Friday, June 7!
- This event will be preceded on Thursday morning by a workshop for preschoolers at the Maison de la famille de Vaudreuil-Soulanges to create a seigneurial parchment in the image of each family.
- The historical conference, Robert Unwin Harwood, Seigneur de Vaudreuil et visionnaire, will be hosted by ethnologist and author Michel Bélisle on Friday afternoon.
- The festive Friday evening continues with the opening of the Oyez Oyez inn and a performance by the group Garçons à marier. The three musicians offer a lively sound rooted in tradition thanks to their wealth of experience.
- The historical conference, Une histoire de familles ... seigneuriales, hosted by Benoit Grenier, historian and full professor at the Université de Sherbrooke, will take place on Saturday afternoon.
- Le Diable à Cinq, a powerful traditional music group, will perform on Saturday evening, June 8. It's also a family affair featuring three brothers, a cousin and a friend, who share the stage with great complicity.
- The regular mass, the public auction, the parade and the planting of the May tree - a tradition designed to pay tribute to the seigniorial family, attract good harvests and celebrate after a long winter - will be followed by historian Sébastien Daviau's À la découverte du Vieux-Vaudreuil et de son église tour on Sunday morning.
- Historical re-enactors, demonstrations of trades from the past, period musicians, artisans and agri-food producers from the public market will be on hand!
- At the Place des Premières Nations in Esther-Blondin Park, visitors will be able to enjoy the Native encampment, military camps and cannon firings on the waterfront.
