Rigaud bans watering indefinitely
Due to outdoor overuse of water distributed by the urban aqueduct network, the lack of precipitation and the rapid decline in drinking water reserves, the Ville de Rigaud is issuing a watering ban until further notice.
This ban is in place to ensure the supply of drinking water for essential needs, as well as fire protection.
Anyone contravening the current ban is liable to a fine of up to $500 for a first offence.
Since June 4, it has been forbidden to:
To water a lawn using a mechanical or automatic sprinkler system, or a hose with or without a self-closing nozzle. All programmed systems must be deactivated;
Water new vegetation (lawns, seeds, landscaping) unless a permit has been duly issued by the municipality before the ban comes into force on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Any holder of a permit that is still valid must comply in all respects with the conditions set out in the permit, and make it visible from the public highway;
Washing vehicles, driveways, driveways, building walls or windows;
Completely fill a swimming pool (only levelling is permitted). Owners may use a private water truck service at their own expense;
To proceed with a lavothon, even if a permit was issued before the ban.
However, the following restrictions apply
Manual watering of vegetable gardens and flowers using a hand-held watering can or a hose with a hand-held self-closing nozzle at any time is permitted between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. from Sunday to Saturday. Water must not run onto the ground, driveways or lawn.
Any sprinkler system that draws water from a private well or water basin (lake, stream, etc.) is not covered by the ban, but homeowners are invited to contribute to the collective effort to protect the water table.
Any toy or water game used to cool a child must not be operated without the presence of a child.
