Alex Burrows to take part in Dek Hockey World Cup
The Pincourt native Alex Burrows will be taking part in the Dek Hockey World Cup, June 5-8, at Mont-Tremblant. Burrows, who works alongside Martin St-Louis as assistant coach of the Montreal Canadiens, is among the athletes selected to take part in this major competition.
For the uninitiated, Dek Hockey is a sport modelled on ice hockey. It can be played three-on-three, four-on-four or five-on-five, on surfaces of appropriate size for the number of players. In fact, it's a game similar to field hockey, but played on foot with a plastic ball on a playing surface designed specifically for the sport.
The former Vancouver Canucks team-mate has always played the game, even though he made his name playing on National Hockey League rinks. According to some observers, he even ranks among the best in the world.
Next week, he will don the colors of Team Québec to compete in the category reserved for players over 35. Proof of his great passion for the sport, Alex Burrows is also involved as President of the Ligue nationale de field hockey Balle au Québec, in addition to associating his name with Dek field hockey tournaments such as the Burrows Cup.
