This was the first year that the arts plastiques-études program was offered at Cité-des-Jeunes high school. This course brings together art students from Secondary 1 to V, who have an interest in the arts. Néomédia met them to find out their impressions of the Mettre les mains à la pâte exhibition, which was presented in a museum of recognized standing, the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, an impressive first for most of them.

It was in their Cité-des-Jeunes premises that we saw just over twenty youngsters with a curiosity for the plastic arts at work, comfortably ensconced in their bubbles.

Let's just say that they're all proud to have taken part in the Mettre les mains à la pâte exhibition, which brought together their works in the Musée régional's multi-purpose hall from April 11 to May 14. What's more, the exhibition is now on show at the Bibliothèque Gaby-Farmer Denis des Cèdres, in the multi-purpose room, until June 14.

Here's what they have to say about it:

“I found the experience interesting; it introduced us to a technique that requires dexterity and creativity. I got my taste for the arts from my maternal grandmother,” says Thomas Bédard.

“From almost as far back as I can remember, I've been painting, I like acrylic paint, I do it at home”, Lola Fernandes.

“It's nice to be recognized as an artist,” says Milo Robillard Kasuto.

“It was a great experience to exhibit in a museum; with the theme of bread, you realize that everything leads to art. Yes, I think one art can lead to another. For example, I once created a work inspired by a poem,” says Heidi Robichaud.

“It opens doors for the future, and it was really cool to be able to exhibit in a museum,” Alexa Robillard.

“I liked working, it was an interesting technique, it was the emotion that came first; my emotion was nostalgia, I was inspired by the Covid and rainbows”, Maria Marseille-King.

“I found it an extraordinary experience. It certainly helps for the future. I had an idea in mind at the start, which I modified as I was inspired,” Morane Boily.

The creations on display allude to Annick Gauvreau's artistic approach, the spontaneous, unpreconceived painting of the Automatistes, and the history of the region. The students used bannetons from the former Leroux bakery in Les Cèdres to frame the abstract works.

Here are the names of the students and the titles of their works for the Mettre les mains à la pâte exhibition, which runs until June 14 at the Gaby-Farmer-Denis library.
