Six Vaudreuil-Dorion resident athletes, identified as Espoir, Relève or Élite by their respective federations, were honoured this Tuesday at the city council meeting.

The funds granted under the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion's Athlete Support Policy will enable these athletes to pursue their sporting careers. 

A total of $4,700 was paid out by the City on Tuesday, in recognition of these young athletes' sporting achievements and to encourage their participation in major sporting events, such as championships, selections or competitions of provincial, national or international scope, as well as specialization or advanced training courses recognized by their federations and necessary for their development.

Mayor Guy Pilon was keen to highlight the efforts of these young athletes: “I'm happy to see young people driven by the desire to surpass themselves and persevere. It takes discipline to dedicate yourself to a sport, and I congratulate you on your achievements. You can be proud of yourselves. I'd also like to make a special mention of the parents, whose role is indispensable to the youngsters' progress. They give so much of their time to ensure that their children flourish.”

This year, the following athletes received an amount to finance part of their participation in championships:

- Émilie Séguin - Volleyball - Canadian Championship in Calgary;

- Tristan Roy - Lacrosse - Championship in Charlottetown;

- Jacob Roy - Lacrosse - Championship in Regina;

- Mikaella Martin - Athletics - 57th Quebec Games Final in Rimouski;

- Naomi Pelletier - Softball - Canadian Championship in British Columbia;

- Emma Pelletier - Softball - Canadian Championship in Saskatchewan;
