The region's firefighters practice their high-altitude rescue skills on the site of the future hospital
Specialized high-altitude rescue teams from the Ville de Rigaud and Ville de Pincourt fire departments, in collaboration with the Service de sécurité incendie de Vaudreuil-Dorion, took advantage of the presence of cranes on the site of the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital to hold a high-altitude rescue exercise.
Between 7.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, the firefighters could be seen in action on the site.
The training involved practicing rope rescue maneuvers from the tops of cranes on the construction site, and was authorized by Pomerleau and Santco, as well as officials from CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest.
The aim was to familiarize the teams with the site and the equipment used on site, so that they would be ready in the event of an emergency. For example, a crane operator, alone in his cabin, might require medical assistance, and would have to be evacuated using a rope rescue system.
The planned maneuvers included abseiling and zip-line descents from one of the highest cranes on the site.
The training was not open to the public.
