L'Atelier: Three artists in artistic residency at Maison Valois
This Sunday, April 28, artist Stéphan Daigle will take over the Maison Valois to begin his six-week artistic residency, during which he will create four works that will subsequently be exhibited on city buildings.
Stéphan Daigle will visit the world of fairy tales with his project Dans la forêt de l'imaginaire. A reminder of the many tales of our childhood in which the protagonist sets off on an adventure and grows through trials and discoveries. Her images conjure up fantastical worlds born of her love of nature and her exploration of the limits of her imagination.
“The L'Atelier project is multi-faceted, and that's what makes it so interesting. Firstly, the artist has the chance to evolve in an inspiring location during his residency, and to welcome visitors to present his project and discuss his artistic approach. From the public's point of view, it's also a chance to discover this historic house, which often arouses curiosity. The creations are then exhibited on our municipal buildings, for all to see, and form part of the art circuit of Réseau Mozaïk, our cultural presenter, which brings together works located in the area,” explains Karine Marin, Section Manager - Arts and Culture.
For this third edition of L'Atelier, Mr. Daigle will be succeeded by two other artists: Diane Collet (June 16 to July 27) and Ginette Malouin (August 4 to September 14).
As in previous years, passers-by will be invited to enter the house to meet the artists, discuss their projects, explore their worlds by contemplating some of the works exhibited during their residency, or simply discover this heritage house. Each artist has drawn up a schedule for his or her residency, which can be consulted at jesuismozaik.com.
As part of her residency, Diane Collet aims to photograph the evolution of the community garden adjacent to the Maison Valois. Drawing also on photographs of visitors, she intends to create fantastical characters such as gnomes, fairies and hybrid creatures, integrating them harmoniously with vegetation and animality in her project Le petit jardin improbable. Her aim is to illustrate that the creation of visual myths is part of contemporary art, contributing to today's culture.
Aware of climate change and its influence on our environment, it's impossible for Ginette Malouin to remain impassive in the face of this recurring phenomenon, which is changing everything and endangering hundreds of species.
With Il est minuit moins une..., she decided that her art project would focus on one of these species, the monarch butterfly. She wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the imminent danger of losing this magnificent pollinating insect, which comes to breed here after a long 4000 km journey from Mexico.
