To mark Earth Day, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion will be holding two environmental activities on its territory.

On April 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, a clean-up operation will be held in Dorion-Garden Park and the adjacent wooded area. To take part, all you have to do is fill in a form available on the Town's website in the Environmental Activities section.

All necessary equipment (gloves, garbage bags and tongs) will be provided on site at the event. However, we recommend that children bring a pair of gloves adapted to their size. Participants are invited to bring their own water bottle.

In conjunction with the clean-up operation, the organizers, Organisation Bleue, will be presenting the webinar "Comprendre la pollution plastique et devenir vecteur de changement", on April 18 at 7 pm. This will be an opportunity to find out more about the main issues surrounding plastic pollution in Quebec, as well as the clean-up operation to be held on April 20.

The link to register for the webinar can also be found on the city's website.

Urban Nature Challenge

What's more, from April 26 to 29, 2024, the Greater Montreal region (GMC) will be taking part in a global bioblitz called the "Urban Nature Challenge". Over the course of four days, residents of more than 400 cities around the world will attempt to document as many species of wildlife as possible using the free iNaturalist application.

The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is joining the movement by organizing a bioblitz at Harwood Nature Park on April 27, starting at 9 a.m. Thanks to this free, no-registration event, citizens can help profile biodiversity in Vaudreuil-Dorion, while advancing urban conservation.

During guided hikes (departures at 9:15 and 11 a.m.), participants will benefit from the expertise of the Éco-Pivot organization and Pierre Molina, President of Environnement Faucon, in identifying the species observed.

Éco-Pivot is an organization whose mission is to offer support in the development of ecological corridors in urban settings, whether to citizens' groups, institutions or municipal authorities.

A resident of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Pierre Molina holds a bachelor's degree in biological sciences and a master's degree in biology, specializing in ornithology, from the Université de Montréal.He has many years' experience in wildlife management, with a particular focus on birds of prey.

Prior to the bioblitz, you'll need to download the iNaturalist mobile application onto your cell phone. No knowledge or experience is necessary to take part in this activity.

Full event details are available on the website at ville.vaudreuil-dorion.qc.ca.For further information, please contact the Environment section at [email protected] or 450 455-3371, option 1.
