To begin negotiations
Sûreté du Québec police officers demonstrate in Vaudreuil-Dorion
Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (there are almost 6,000 in Quebec) organized a day of demands today, due to the fact that they have been without a work contract since March 2022. Several police officers were demonstrating in Vaudreuil-Dorion, just west of the Taschereau bridge, on their lunch hour today, calling on the government to act.
Néomédia spoke to one of the representatives of the Sûreté du Québec - Poste MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges union team, who pointed out that: "We are the largest police force in Quebec and we are 129th, in terms of salary including working conditions, out of 131 police forces in Canada".
Asked what their main demands were, the union officer replied: "If the government would agree to sit down at the bargaining table and start negotiating, that would be a good start".
In fact, SQ police officers and the Quebec government have not yet begun talks on renewing their expired contract.
Police officers are invited to wear the red cap in support of their demands.
