The Ville de Rigaud has just given an update on the condition of the pavement on chemin J.-René Gauthier, which runs through its territory. This portion of the road has been the subject of much criticism following a correction carried out in recent days.

On its Facebook page, the Town states that "before proceeding with the complete repair of the portion that belongs to it, the Town is waiting for the Ministère des Transports du Québec et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD) to proceed with the repair of the bridge that straddles the Rivière à la Raquette on Route 201".

Why wait? "Because when the work begins, the MTMD will divert all Route 201 traffic onto Chemin J.-René-Gauthier for the duration of the work - some 6,000 vehicles and heavy goods vehicles per day, for several days. Before investing large sums of taxpayers' money in repairing this road, the city prefers to wait until the work is completed. It is also considering filing the pavement condition index, particularly for the section in better condition, to obtain compensation. At last count, MTMD's proposed timetable was still 2024-2025. We are still waiting for confirmation that the work will begin".

In the interim, the public works team had to correct the subsidence of the roadway, as the bodywork of some vehicles was touching the pavement.
