The Conseil des arts et de la culture de Vaudreuil-Soulanges is pleased to present the exhibition Bibilolo, crapaud charmant, cherche compagnon by illustrator Johanne Mitchell. The Lazarois artist is presenting her exhibition at the CACVS gallery until the end of August.

This project combines writing and illustration. It consists of 7 ink-on-paper mixed-media illustrations, accompanying the story, also written by Johanne Mitchell, of Bibilolo, a charming little toad who consults a dating agency in an attempt to find love.

Johanne Mitchell is an illustrator who first worked as a graphic designer for many years on a variety of projects promoting the work of artists in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region. She has always been inspired to create her own illustrations in ink and wood pencil, featuring forest creatures.

Cyprienne the mouse

She created the character of Cyprienne the mouse, who has been a cultural ambassador for the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Regional Museum's educational service for over 20 years. Johanne Mitchell also illustrated the 13 children's albums in the Les Aventures de Cyprienne series, published by the Musée de Vaudreuil-Soulanges.

Her approach

Passionate about illustration and having completed a certificate in children's literature, Johanne Mitchell has always enjoyed writing playful stories and illustrating them on little messages she used to slip into the lunchboxes of her children learning to read in the 1990s. Bibilolo first appeared in the lunchbox of her son, the youngest in the family.

Many years later, Bibilolo, crapaud charmant, cherche compagnon was written and illustrated during the pandemic in 2022, at the request of the Saint-Lazare library, to offer a unique story time to local children during a difficult period.

The exhibition is accessible during MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges opening hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
